1. SHAKE IT OUT
Players on opposing teams must show respect to each other by shaking hands before the game.
2. EYE TO EYE FOR HONORS
To determine which team throws first, players must shoot simultaneously while looking each other in the eye. The first team to make a cup gets to throw first and the cup stays on the table.
3. BALL N’ CUP
When a cup is made, the cup is pulled from the table once both players have shot.
4. BALLS BACK
If both team members make their shots on a turn, both players get to shoot again. Two balls in the same cup result in three cups pulled.
5. DON’T JUST PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION, ACT LIKE ONE
Dance moves, fake outs, distractions, and trash talking are permitted and flat out encouraged.
6. WAIT TO THROW
Players may not throw at the same time. The second player must wait for the first player’s ball to hit the cup, beer, or table.
7. NO AIR BALLS
An air ball is a throw that does not touch either a cup or the table. An air ball results in a one cup penalty. There is no air ball penalties on the last cup for the team with one cup left on their side.
8. BOUNCES
A ball that hits the table before going into a cup counts for two cups. Once a ball hits either the lip of a cup or any part of the table, it is free game to grab or slap away, so all bounces can be blocked.
9. GUYS FINGER
Guys can finger the ball out as long as neither the ball nor the finger is wet. Players are only allowed to use one hand when attempting to finger.
10. GIRLS BLOW
Anytime a ball is spinning along the inner lip of a cup, ladies can blow the ball out as long as the ball is not wet. (Tongues are not permitted during this type of blowing)
11. KEEP THE CUP ON THE TABLE
If a cup falls, accident or not, the cup is pulled. If the downed cup happens to be the last cup, the game is over with no chance for rebuttals.
12. RE-RACKS
There are two re-racks in the DTBL: a six cup triangle and a three cup triangle. Applicable re-racks can be called at any time.
13. BACK IT UP
No part of a player’s body may touch the table while throwing. Also, all players’ shoulders must be behind the edge of the table when throwing. A violation of this rule results in a re-throw for the first offense, and a loss of turn for any violation thereafter.
14. ON FIRE!
If a single player makes two shots in a row, the player may call “Heating Up!” If the player makes a third consecutive shot and calls “On Fire,” that player has the opportunity to shoot until he/she misses.
15. LAST CUP
Once a game gets down to the last cup, the cup may not be centered on the back edge of the table. If the cup is hanging over the edge of the table, a team may bring the cup’s lip even with the edge of the table.
16. REBUTTALS
A rebuttal is an opportunity to keep the game alive. When a team eliminates exactly the amount of cups left on the table, the opposing team receives the opportunity to keep the game alive through a rebuttal. Since the game is tentatively over, the Balls Back rule does not apply. If the opposing team makes the rebuttal, the cup is left on the table.
a) Each player has one chance to make a cup. No matter the circumstances, only one cup needs to be made in order to keep the game alive. If a cup is made, the cup remains on the table since the throw was a rebuttal.
b) If both players sink the rebuttal attempt, one cup is pulled since the first was a rebuttal. If both players sink both rebuttal attempts in the same cup, two cups are pulled. The team DOES NOT get the balls back if both players make their rebuttal shots.
17. Walk-Offs!
When a team eliminates more cups than left on the table (e.g. two balls made in the same cup, with two cups left result in three cups pulled; see rule #4) then the game is over. In this scenario, there is no chance for rebuttal.
18. SCORING
The team declared the winner receives an additional win on their League record and a score determined by the number of cups left on the table. If a team fails to show up for a scheduled game, it is an automatic loss and a deduction of 10 points from their league score. The opposing team automatically wins, with a score of 0. Substitutions are allowed at anytime during regular league play.
19. THE OFFICIALS’ WORD IS FINAL
There will be an official for each game to handle all disputes, discrepancies, and scoring. All decisions made by an official are final.
20. SAFTY & RESPONSIBILITY
A main purpose of the League is to provide a safe and responsible environment to enjoy the game of Beirut. The following regulations MUST be followed at all times:
a) A player must never play more than two games in one night, or more than one game within a two hour period.
b) A team has the option to play with non-alcoholic beverages.
c) A player ALWAYS has the option to abstain from drinking.
d) Inappropriate behavior is not tolerated and is punishable by the issuance of a technical foul or suspension at the Commissioner’s discretion.
